Stalley - Gettin' By (Video)

St

MMG's Stalley drops off another new visual from his "Honest Cowboy" mixtape with the track "Gettin' By". Another example of why he is, in my opinion, head and shoulders above the rest of his label mates artistically.

Allen Iverson Officially Retires

AI

Tonight one of the greatest basketball players of a generation will officially retire. Allen Iverson will be honoured at the Philadelphia 76er's season opener against the Miami Heat. Despite not suiting up in an NBA uniform for three years, AI will be officially retired in the city he called home for much of his career.

He never managed to get that elusive championship with the Sixers, although he came very close in 2001, but the numerous awards, personal accolades and the numbers he put on the board over the years speak volumes. The only thing I can really do is show some video highlights of his career and to wish him well. It's a sad day.

Watch his retirement press conference followed by some highlights.

DJ Scratch on Crate Diggers (Video)

DJ Scratch

One of the most amazing DJs I've ever witnessed in person is the latest guest on "Crate Diggers". DJ Scratch opens his vinyl collection with some rare treats and stories too.

Also, after his episode, check him remembering the late Jam Master Jay. JMJ died 11 years ago today.

Jonny Dub

Jonny Dub, the Manchester DJ/producer and boss man at legendary night Hoya:Hoya, releases a nice mix of tunes just in time for Halloween. Taking from horror genre spanning 40 years, this is something to accompany the upcoming festivities and earlier dark nights.

Jonny Dub -

"Probably the most out there mix I have done, straight from Vinyl (well mostly) featuring some of the horror genre's most boundary pushing and original pieces of music from the last 40 years. Please I hope you enjoy the journey.... If you like drums, synths and weird shit, then this ones for you!!"

Illa J and Frank Nitt AKA the Yancey Boys drop a visual for the brilliant "Quicksand". Over an unheard Dilla beat (like the rest of the new album) the two lay verses with help from Common and features Dezi Paige on the hook.

This track is taken from the new project "Sunset Blvd." which is out now on Delicious Vinyl.

Oddisee - Own Appeal (Video)

Marco Polo - Astonishing feat. Large Professor, Inspectah Deck, O.C., Tragedy Khadafi & DJ Revolution (Audio)

MP

Marco Polo doesn't let us forget that his new album is on the way as he unleashes this posse cut that absolutely slaps. "Astonishing" features a slew of Hip-Hop legends in the form of Large Professor, Wu-Tang's Inspectah Deck, D.I.T.C.'s O.C., Queens' own Tragedy Khadafi and The Wake Up Show's DJ Revolution on the cuts. I can't wait for this album!

Check the track below.

Jus'Liam - Optimus Backpack (Audio)

Liam

A preview track from an up and coming emcee from Manchester; Jus'Liam. First, a little background.

"18 year old North Manchester emcee Jus'Liam has been rhyming from the age of 15. After leaving high school he began studying at Music Base College in Manchester. Currently working with Kuartz, the two met briefly many years ago when Kuartz was still working with the whole AOA clan. At the time, although Kuartz recognised Liam's talent, he knew it wasn't the right time to start mentoring him until he had high school behind him. Liam has independently released various bits and pieces on a solo tip but also as part of the duo Prodigal Sons alongside MC Devaughn Trey. The pair dropped their debut joint EP back in October and now Liam is currently working on his solo mixtape 'Prodigal' which is due out winter 2013."

Check Jus'Liam over a particularly gritty beat from 9th Wonder.

Run The Jewels - Get It (Video)

RTJ

El-P and Killer Mike put together tour footage for what is probably my favourite track from their Run The Jewels project. "Get It" is definitely something to annoy the neighbours with. That bass.

Caxton Press - This Ain't Livin' / Hunger (Videos)

Caxton

Can't believe I missed these two tracks! Better late than never though. London's Caxton Press released the single "This Ain't Livin'" at the end of September and dropped a visual to go with it. On the flipside to the single is the banger "Hunger" which also got the visual treatment a couple of weeks later.

The single "This ain't Livin'" B/W "Hunger" is still available here. Check both videos below.

Verb T - Old And Grumpy (Video)

Verbs

Today sees the release of the much anticipated new album from Verb T. To accompany the project's release, he's also dropped a video for the track "Old And Grumpy". Don't worry Verbs, that's how we're all getting.

LP

It's always good to hear new material from Lewis Parker. Here he drops a video for "Summer With Asakala" which will appear on his upcoming album "The Puzzle/Episode Two/The Glass Ceiling". The new project will be available next week through King Underground.

For now, check the video. Also, hearing the vocal samples at the end of the track transported me back to this old record of his.

Scoe - Tha Influence (Mixtape)

Scoe

Philadelphia's Scoe (formerly Roscoe) releases his latest project through DJ Booth with "Tha Influence". Admittedly, I'm not too familiar with his back catalogue other than a few tracks here and there with his brother Kurupt but the production credits and features were enough to hold my interest. With tracks with Xzibit and Kendrick Lamar and music from the likes of Jake One, Just Blaze, Statik Selektah, Hi-Tek, Nottz to name a few. Yeah, I downloaded it straight away too.

Stream and download below or visit the DJ Booth page here.

Life MC - Power Of The Mind feat. Genesis Elijah (Video)

Life

Life MC drops a video from his new album "Gift Of Life". With Genesis Elijah sharing mic duties and production from Nappa, "Power Of The Mind" is a track that sets the bar high for any UK release. In fact, it doesn't even need the UK label. This is just great Hip Hop.

Check the video below. "Gift Of Life" is available now on Life's Bandcamp.

In this short documentary, DJ Evil Dee, 5FT and Buckshot look back at their beginning and making of that first album; "Enta Da Stage".

BET Cyphers 2013 (Video)

BET

The BET Hip Hop Awards released their annual slew of "The Cypher" videos with contributions from TDE, Slaughterhouse, Action Bronson, Rittz, Jon Connor, Rapsody to name just a few. It'll come as no surprise that the standout cyphers came from Slaughterhouse and a particularly venomous display from Kendrick Lamar from the TDE camp. Long time Yelawolf collaborator Rittz also stood out from a lot of mediocre verses.

Check the TDE, Slaughterhouse videos below as well as the video Rittz was a part of.

TDE (ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad and Kendrick Lamar)

Slaughterhouse (Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Royce Da 5'9 & Joe Budden)

Eminem - Rap God (Audio)

Em

It's very apparent that at this stage in his career Eminem isn't trying to win new fans or necessarily trying to cater for the people who've listened to him since 1997. He can do what he wants at this point. While I'm not crazy about the beat here, his technique and ability is undeniable. Now whatever the content may be, Marshall sure knows how to rap. Just listen to how the momentum picks up from verse to verse. Impressive.

"Rap God" will be available on iTunes from midnight. Listen to the audio below.

Devin The Dude - Probably Should Have (Video)

Devin

I think I've seen maybe a total of three videos, including this one, from Devin The Dude. Well here goes his latest visual for "Probably Should Have" from his new album "One For The Road" which will be available any time now.

Eddie B & Harry Fraud - The Johnny Utah Story (Mixtape)

EB

Eddie B and Harry Fraud drop their latest joint EP for free with a Point Break theme. 6 tracks and the instrumentals thrown in too. Quality.

Find the download here at Dat Piff.

Doctor P & Adam F - The Pit feat. Method Man (Video)

Doc

It would seem that Adam F is on a dubstep steez these days if his latest collaboration is anything to go by. On his new track he joins forces with Doctor P and also enlists Johnny Blaze himself, Method Man, to lend his vocals to the proceedings. It's different and I like it.

Expect the single to drop on the 28th of October. Check out the animated video below.

Manchester Marauders Exhibition Launch

MM

We're now only a couple of days away from the opening night special of the Manchester Marauders exhibition brought to you by Air Adam. If you've no idea what I'm talking about, get familiar by reading on.

"Manchester Marauders is an exhibition of my photography celebrating the Manchester Hip-Hop scene and some of the people from it who have influenced me since I came to the city.

Twenty years after the release of A Tribe Called Quest's "Midnight Marauders," the centrepiece of the show is a re-imagining of that famous album cover - featuring 49 respected Manchester-connected Hip-Hop figures - on display for the very first time.

This opening event will be headlined by a cipher from a number of the "Marauders" themselves - MCs and DJs featured on the piece throwing down live!

Also on the night, DJ sets from;
Mikey D.O.N (Krispy, Night of the Living Dread)
Lee Majors (More Bounce, Superbad)
DJ A-Up (In The Loop)
Omas & DEEJAY13 (At Large) - special Tribe breaks & samples set!

Prints of the main piece will be available to buy and take away on the night - maybe just a small future piece of local history? ;)

FREE ENTRY - please come down and enjoy the work!"

The evening starts at 6pm with a short film from In The Loop's Agent J and Bedos followed by the unveiling of the "Manchester Marauders" centre piece of the exhibition. Then there will be DJ sets and a cipher from the artists mentioned above.

Here's a small teaser trailer to give a little idea of what the exhibition is about.

Joey Bada$$ - Hilary Swank (Video)

The Making Of Ice Cube's "Today Was A Good Day" (Video)

Cube

Complex continue their fantastic "Magnum Opus" series with the making of Ice Cube's classic cut "Today Was A Good Day". The track is probably one of the most well known songs from any catalogue in Hip-Hop, especially when you consider the time it was released and who it was created by. If you asked anyone, particularly a non Hip-Hop fan, to name an Ice Cube song, "Today Was A Good Day" is a strong contender for their answer.

This episode of "Magnum Opus" explores the inspiration for the song and the crossover appeal it garnered, with quotes from Ice Cube himself as well as others.

Watch the episode below followed by the full video beneath.

Thursday 10 October 2013

Vado - R.N.S. feat. Jadakiss and Troy Ave (Video)

Vado releases the visual to "R.N.S." from his "Slime Flu 4" mixtape. The track, which is easily my favourite from the project, features Jadakiss and Troy Ave.

Check the video below.
