Follow Friday - The Doppelgangaz & Timeless Truth

Instead of spending money I shouldn't be on Black Friday (I just did), I thought a "Follow Friday" segment was in order. The groups that I've decided to feature are two that I've been following for a few years now. Both make back to basics Hip Hop and is exactly what people are crying out for these days. Or so they say...

Kanye West Interview on Sway In The Morning (Video)

You may or may not of heard about Kanye West going ballistic on air yesterday. Yeezy appeared on Shade45's "Sway In The Morning" and gave a really entertaining interview. Despite the fact his was a little disrespectful to host Sway Calloway during the interview, for the most part you can see that Kanye is a passionate and charismatic person.

Phife Dawg on "The Questions" (Video)

Two Tribe related posts in one day! Nice. Phife Diggy appears on the latest episode of Okayplayer's "The Questions". He answers a number of questions including what his favourite Dilla beat is and his highlights from ATCQ's 'final' show on the Yeezus tour.

Busta Rhymes - Thank You feat. Q-Tip (Video)

The Dragon and The Abstract release the video to their track "Thank You" with intros from Lil Wayne and Kanye West. This has such a good feeling about it and I hope there's more of this on Busta and Tip's upcoming collaborative mixtape.

The Mouse Outfit - Got Me Thinkin' feat. Sparkz (Video)

The Mouse Outfit release their latest video from the album "Escape Music". The track "Got Me Thinkin'" features the lyrical talents of Sparkz. When the song finishes, we're treated to a small preview of upcoming music too. Always working.

Timeless Truth drop off the new video for their Large Professor produced track "Wavelength". This single will be included on the forthcoming LP "COLD WAVE".

Kanye West - Bound 2 (Video)

Mr. "I'm an artist" drops the official video for his standout track from "Yeezus". The track "Bound 2" features vocals from Charlie Wilson also.

Kim Kardashian sits on the front of Ye's bike topless. A lot of thought went in to this video treatment, I think you'll agree.

Step Brothers (Evidence & Alchemist) - Step Masters (Video)

We finally get a taste of the upcoming album from Evidence and Alchemist AKA Step Brothers in their new video. The track "Step Masters" will appear on their new album "Lord Steppington" due at the top of the year. The single can be acquired instantly with pre-orders of the album here (UK) or here (US).

Eminem Interview with Zane Lowe (Video)

After two impressive interviews with both Jay Z and Kanye West this year, Zane Lowe's next big sit down was with Eminem. In the first of a four part interview, Slim Shady/Marshall Mathers/Eminem discusses the beginning stages of his latest album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" plus meeting and working with legendary producer Rick Rubin.

The Black Album's 10 Year Anniversary

The last ten years have absolutely flown by. You know you're getting old when you use albums to measure time periods. Well Jay Z's "last album" is ten years old this weekend, so I thought I'd post a few videos and featurettes on the making of it. I've even posted the full movie "Fade To Black", which was meant to be his swan song performance. No, he's still putting out music today.

OutKast's Big Boi treats us to a live version of "Tremendous Damage" from his album "Vicious Rumors & Dangerous Lies". This live set was for The Grammys "ReImagined" series but seems to have gone unnoticed since its early October upload. Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.

Rare Notorious B.I.G. Documentary from 1995

Rare is probably the wrong word to use now that it's had nearly 25,000 views on YouTube but it was certainly new to me. A short documentary with Biggie Smalls aired on Channel 4's "Passengers" back in 1995. It shows Big back in his neighborhood and even shows him recording.

The video has been on YouTube since August but only caught my attention today over at Complex. Check the video below.

Often regarded as the original blue-eyed soul singer, Jon B entered the music scene long before the likes of Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, and Daley, and quite evidently influenced them all. Himself inspired by names such as Duran Duran, Inxs, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and Prince, it was as a student of Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds that Jon earned his stripes, writing and producing alongside the iconic singer until it was time to step in to the spotlight himself.

With an array of platinum and gold albums, as well as various award nominations (including a Grammy nod for “Someone To Love”, his 1995 collaboration with Babyface), eight albums on and the singer is stronger than ever before. Having this year released his new B-Sides Collection LP, an album featuring unreleased material recorded between the years of 2001 and 2012, this past month also saw Jon take to the stage at the 2013 Soul Train Awards.

Sitting down with ill Will as the first guest on the newly created The Authentic Series, Jon will be discussing everything from his move in to music performance, his time spent working with Babyface, and being the last artist to record with the legendary rapper Tupac Shakur. Jon will also tell the story of the time he met Michael Jackson and go through the tragedy of losing his home studio to a fire. There will also be time allocated for audience questions.
A Hip Hop Actors Studio, The Authentic Series is a live Q&A show hosted by journalist ill Will. Interviewing various musicians and industry folk in front of a live audience, the show's recording takes place in various venues across the globe. Filmed exclusively for illwill.co.uk (which launches January 1st 2014) in association with Noel Mack Films, each episode of The Authentic Series will offer an in-depth look in to the life and times of the featured guest.

RA The Rugged Man Interview with Dead End Hip Hop (Video)

Wu-Tang and ATCQ Albums Turn 20

20 Years

On November 9th 1993, arguably two of Hip Hop's most loved and classic albums were released by A Tribe Called Quest and the Wu-Tang Clan. There shouldn't be a discussion over which is the better body of work as the two are completely different but they both still hold a sound that we yearn to hear today. Everyone has their favourite albums and these will almost always be brought in to the conversation.

Yep, another Eminem post. Sorry but this had to be added. The full version of Slim on the classic Black Moon track. Unfortunately "Don't Front" doesn't have a Buckshot verse. He's only the chorus. An album from Eminem with more production like this please. To think, Duck Down nearly signed him in the 90's.

Emilio Rojas - No Shame...No Regrets (Video)

Emilio Rojas drops a one take video for the title track of his album "No Shame...No Regrets". He kind of gets a lot off his chest in this one and mentions having a meeting scheduled with Chris Lighty the day he passed. If Baby Chris was meeting with him, that should tell you the type of potential Emilio Rojas had/has.

7 Days Of Funk (Snoopzilla & Dam-Funk) - Faden Away (Video)

Here we get our first look (and listen) at Snoop's new music in collaboration with Stones Throw producer Dam-Funk. The result for "Faden Away" is, well, funky. Look for their "7 Days Of Funk" project to be on its way December 10th.

Mathematics - Shorty / Four Horsemen (Video)

Wu-Tang's long time producer Mathematics drops a two in one video for a couple of tracks from his album "The Answer". The first half of the video features Cappadonna and Masta Killa on "Shorty", then the second half is for the track "Four Horsemen" which has verses from Inspectah Deck and Method Man. The full version of the track also features verses from Raekwon and Ghostface.

This is so refreshing to see. An unreleased MTV interview that hasn't been seen until recently shows Kanye West talking about his start in the music industry, the early days of Roc-A-Fella Records, his hopes for the future and a whole lot more. He talks with the same passion he shows nowadays but in a less biting and arrogant/confident manner.

After winning the 1Xtra rap battle at this years Leeds Festival, Bowski stepped up for the latest episode of Charlie Sloth's "Fire In The Booth". This was recorded a few weeks ago so everyone who knows him has been looking forward to seeing this. Nice one Bowskdog! Well deserved mate.

Eminem - Rap God (Live at YouTube Music Awards)

Last night saw the first ever YouTube Music Awards take place at NYC's Pier 36. To say the night didn't go without a few hiccups is an understatement but was still more interesting to watch than the stale MTV Video Music Awards.

Spike Jonze was the creative director behind the whole evening which saw 'live music videos' performed by artists including M.I.A., Earl Sweatshirt & Tyler, The Creator, Lady GaGa and others. The night was closed out with a performance from Eminem with "Rap God".
