The Making of "Disposable Arts" by Masta Ace (Documentary)

DA
Masta Ace "Disposable Arts" album cover

It's been 15 years since the release of Masta Ace's classic album "Disposable Arts" but a few years ago in 2013 the album was re-issued by Below System Records out of The Netherlands. Packaged with the album was a making of the album documentary that was only recently put online and premiered by Ambrosia For Heads.

Stories behind the tracks are discussed with Ace himself along with a number of the producers and artists featured, including Stricklin, Wordsworth, Punch, Rah Digga, Domingo, Xplicit and DJ J-S1 to name a few. This is a really interesting watch if you're a fan of Masta Ace and what sparked his return to music after a six year break and the obstacles Ace and his team faced just to put the album out.

Elzhi - February (Video)

El
Elzhi

It's been a long five years since Elzhi's tribute to Nas with his "Elmatic" album. The wait is now over for a new project from El as he prepares to release "Lead Poison" at the end of March.

Here with have the first video from the set with "February" which we heard at the tail end of 2015. Over a dreamy but busy percussive track from 14KT, Elzhi talks about his fight with depression, the old days and the loss of his friend J Dilla. The visuals do a great job of tapping in to his mind regarding these subjects.

"Lead Poison" is up for pre-order now.

You Know What Love Is... A Tribute To J Dilla/Jay Dee

JayDee
A small selection of Jay Dee productions

February. Dilla month. The month that James Dewitt Yancey was born and passed away. It's been ten years since music lost a pioneer, genius and friend. From his early work with his group Slum Village, his high profile hits with Janet Jackson and Q-Tip, through to his own "Donuts" album he created on his death bed, Jay Dee left a legacy that will be remembered.

Manchester will do their bit to remember him on February the 18th in The Whiskey Jar basement. Ten years after the original tribute night took place at Urbis in 2006, a number of DJs from that night will come back together to pay their respects. FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE

J Dilla's Vinyl Collection - Crate Diggers

JD

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of J Dilla.

Not much else can be said about the impact that he had on music, his family, friends and fans. A few years ago, as part of their Crate Diggers series, Fuse TV put together an episode looking at his personal collection of vinyl. In his absence, numerous close friends and collaborators talk about the man and his music.
